How to make a tournament bracket
- Type your teams, one per line, best seed first. Or press Shuffle for a random draw.
- Press Make bracket. Top seeds get byes when the field isn't a power of two.
- Click a team in any match to mark it the winner and move it to the next round.
- Print the bracket, or keep the page open and update it as results come in.
How seeding and byes work
Brackets are built in the standard seed order, so the 1 seed meets the lowest seed first and the top two seeds can only meet in the final. In an eight-team bracket that's 1 v 8, 4 v 5, 2 v 7 and 3 v 6.
When the number of teams isn't 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64, the bracket rounds up and the top seeds get first-round byes. Six teams means a bracket of eight, so seeds 1 and 2 skip straight to the semifinals.
Single elimination or round robin?
Single elimination is fast: one loss and you're out, and you need one fewer game than you have teams. If you want every team to play more than once, run pools with the round robin generator first and seed the bracket from the standings.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Is the tournament bracket maker free?
Yes. No sign-up, no ads in the bracket, and you can print as many as you like.
How many teams can a bracket have?
Anywhere from 2 to 64. Odd numbers are fine: the bracket adds byes for the top seeds.
How many games are in a single-elimination tournament?
One fewer than the number of teams. Sixteen teams play 15 games; twelve teams play 11.
Can I make a random bracket?
Yes. Press Shuffle to randomize the order before you make the bracket.
Does it save my results?
Results stay on the page while it's open. For a league or tournament that runs over weeks, BenchApp keeps schedules, scores and standings for every team.
